Crystals and pearls
- All crystals are genuine Swarovski Crystals. Swarovski supplies about three quarters of the world's full lead crystal, and is a technological leader in its field.
- All pearls are imitation.
Cubic Zirconia
- Cubic Zirconia was discovered in its natural state in 1937, but has not been found again since then. It was not until the 1970s that scientists learned how to grow the crystals synthetically. Thus it is not a mineral. Unlike most diamonds CZ is flawless. It is also more soft and brittle than diamond - for which it is often used as a substitute - and 75 per cent more dense. Two of Le Chic's bracelets [nos. 14 and 17], and five of Le Chic's rings [numbers 19-23], are made with CZ, and contain no Swarovski Crystal; and one ring [number 39] contains both CZ and Swarovski Crystal.
Metals
- All non-engraveable items are alloy, coated with pure Palladium, and with a final outer plating of 24k Platinum [except item numbers 26 and 34 which are plated with Gold]. All engraveable items are solid Sterling Silver, with an outer plating of 24k Platinum. Engraving is offered free of charge.
- Palladium [Pd] was discovered in 1803 by an English scientist. It has the appearance of pure silver, but unlike silver it does not tarnish. It has great chemical stability, polishes wonderfully, and does not corrode. More than half of the world's Pd production is carried out in Russia, with the remaining production taking place in South Africa and the United States. Pd has many applications in industry today: in fact demand for Pd in the chemical industry is roughly equal to its use in the jewellery industry.
- Platinum [Pt] is a beautiful silvery-white metal. It was originally considered an impurity in Silver when the Spaniards first encountered it in Colombia, but its resistance to wear and tarnish makes it especially well suited to use in jewellery.
